About the artwork
This Chinoiserie art print depicts a bird with grey-brown plumage and orange shimmering feathers, landing with semi-open wings on a gnarled branch. Around it, ripe, orange-yellow persimmons hang among vibrant green leaves, standing out warmly against the cream-coloured linen background. Delicate characters and a red seal stamp at the edge of the image give the motif its calligraphic, East Asian-inspired touch.
Framed above a dark sideboard in the dining room, this art print adds a calm, autumnal warm accent among ceramics and candle holders. It looks equally atmospheric above the bed in the bedroom, where it creates a subdued, nature-connected atmosphere as a wall hanging.
The original artwork is by Matsumura Keibun, who created the motif in 1892 as part of a Japanese bird and flower painting collection.
