About the artwork
This Baroque still life shows a partially peeled orange, with its peel coming off the flesh in rough pieces, alongside a second, unblemished orange, and a single white orange blossom branch with leaves. Against an almost black background, warm,侧-lighting captures the moist texture of the flesh and the matte peel. The minimalist composition and strong chiaroscuro contrast recall the quiet, concentrated fruit still lifes of the Old Masters.
